About this place
The dish most closely associated with Waraiya is Grandma’s salted fried chicken. Visitors have described the breast meat as surprisingly springy, while some found the seasoning on the mild side. The menu offers a serving of the Special Salted Fried Chicken for 500 yen, as well as 2 pieces of fried chicken for 300 yen. You can order the signature dish in full or choose a smaller bite alongside something else. Some diners have paired it with a highball, making it a natural choice for a meal built around fried food and drinks.
There are more chicken dishes to choose from, too: chicken drumsticks come in white, seasoned with salt; black, with sauce; or red, with shichimi chilli pepper, at 1 pieces for 250 yen. Chicken-skin skewers are 1 for 150 yen, with a choice of salt or sauce. Some visitors have enjoyed yakitori as well as fried chicken. Other small plates, such as chicken skin with ponzu citrus sauce and chicken grilled with green onion and salt, bring a change of pace. For a lighter start, salted cucumber, edamame and chilled tofu are each 280 yen. There are easy options whether you want to focus on the signature dish or add a few small plates as you go.
For an easy daytime drink, there is also the 1,000-yen senbero set. It includes 1 drinks in mega-sized mugs and 3 small portions of snacks, from which you can choose 2. A draft beer costs an extra 200 yen. If you’d rather settle in for a meal, options include a fried-chicken rice bowl for 620 yen or ochazuke—rice in tea broth—with ume plum or salmon for 420 yen. There are dishes to finish a meal with after drinks and snacks, too.
Some visitors mention stopping by alone for a daytime drink. The menu includes drinks in mega-sized mugs and small plates, so you can put together anything from a quick drink with Waraiya’s signature salted fried chicken to a meal with rice, depending on your mood.
